This course introduces students to the principles of situational awareness and personal safety. Students will learn how to identify potential threats, recognize unusual behavior, improve observation skills, and make sound decisions to avoid danger whenever possible.

Course Objectives:
Students will learn how to:

  • Understand the importance of situational awareness
  • Recognize the levels of awareness in everyday life
  • Identify pre-attack indicators and suspicious behavior
  • Reduce distractions that can make them vulnerable
  • Use avoidance and de-escalation strategies
  • Make safer decisions in public and private settings

  • Awareness levels and mindset
  • Common criminal tactics and pre-attack cues
  • Environmental scanning techniques
  • Managing distractions and staying alert
  • Avoidance, escape, and de-escalation options
  • Applying situational awareness at home, in vehicles, and in public places

Control the Bleed teaches students how to recognize and manage life-threatening bleeding using fast, effective interventions. This lesson covers hemorrhage control priorities, tourniquet selection and placement, direct pressure, wound packing, hemostatic agents, and proper bandaging techniques. Students also practice these skills through live demonstrations, drills, and scenario-based exercises so they can respond confidently in home-defense or public-defense emergencies.
